North Pond Resiliency Project
This dune restoration project is located on the north shore of the inlet to Sandy Pond. The final stages of this project includes planting the restored dunes with native grasses and plants to help them stabilize and grow. As the winds blow eastward off the lake, they lift the dry sands and blow them onto the new plantings where they are trapped in the beachgrass, creating the start of new dunes. Over time these new dunes stabilize and grow.
Volunteer are needed to help with the planting. Its a fun day on the beach.

Dune expert Sandy Bonanno is managing the program. Here are directions:
Directions: GPS should get you to Renshaw Bay Rd., from NY Rt. 3. The turn is across the road from Wayside Inn. GPS won’t help you after that. We gather at the S end of the cottage road on the North Spit.
You take Renshaw Bay Rd. off Route 3, across from the Wayside Inn. Drive all the way to the dead end sign. Then take the private dirt cottage road on the left. Follow it, keeping left until you get to a sign that says "The Birches." then bear right and right, continue up, over and around till the road ends at a gravel driveway. Never mind all the 'private, keep out' signs. They want us there! From the turn onto Renshaw Bay Rd., plan on another 20 minutes.
